As one of the most popular country music stars of his generation, Alan Jackson has racked up 35 number one singles, 14 chart-topping albums and 17 ACM Awards. And judging by a recent Facebook post by daughter Ali, he’s also the perfect father, too. Here’s how he’s inspired both the Nashville crowd and his loving family.
Born in Newnan, Georgia, in 1958, Jackson grew up in a crowded household with his four older sisters. But while he began singing in church from a young age, he initially had little interest in pursuing a music career. After a friend made him aware of the music of country stars like Gene Watson and Hank Williams Jr., however, Jackson began to change his mind. In fact, he was even inspired to get a band together after class. It wasn’t until he was 27, though, that he first moved to Nashville with wife Denise to seek fame and fortune.
Alan first met Denise when he spotted her at a Dairy Queen restaurant; first he tossed a coin her way to get her attention, then he decided to follow her when she left to go home. Then, after surprising her, he asked her out, and the rest is history. The pair spent much of their early romance driving around town in Jackson’s beloved classic Thunderbird convertible. And the relationship blossomed, leading to them walking down the aisle together in 1979.
