But that hookup and that happiness soon led to more. In 2007, after several years of dating, Legend got down on one knee while the pair were holidaying in the Maldives. Teigen of course said yes, and the pair got married in Italy on September 14, 2013. Around that time, Teigen told Vegas magazine that she dreamed of having a big family with four children.
Unfortunately, achieving that family proved to be more difficult for Teigen than she had anticipated. Like hundreds of thousands of couples all over America, she and Legend had difficulty conceiving a child. Eventually, they turned to IVF. It was a difficult process. “Emotionally, it could be really hard,” she told SELF magazine in its April 2016 issue.
But it worked. On April 14, 2016, Luna Simone Stephens was born. (“Stephens” being the real last name of John Legend.) Teigen’s dream of a big family was well on the way. “I think I’ll probably be pregnant all through my 30s,” she told SELF. “I’ve always pictured everyone around the table for the holidays and together once a week.”
But there was still another hurdle to overcome. While mothering Luna, Teigen found herself suffering from postpartum depression. “I thought I was just being a selfish a-hole,” she told InStyle magazine in November 2016. “It wasn’t just a mental thing of, you know, ‘I’m sad.’ I actually couldn’t move.”
