On the morning of June 10, 1991, Jaycee set off to catch the bus to school. But while she was walking to the stop, something terrifying happened that would send a shockwave through the community. As he watched from their family home, Carl Probyn saw a gray car pull up beside Jaycee.
Soon, a woman had forced Jaycee into the waiting vehicle. Realizing that he was witnessing his stepdaughter’s abduction, Probyn jumped on his bicycle and attempted to follow the car. However, he soon fell behind – and Jaycee disappeared into the unknown.
Within days, an extensive search operation was underway. Teams of local volunteers helped distribute posters and T-shirts, while the FBI arrived to assist in the hunt. Meanwhile, local children draped the town in pink ribbons, hoping that Jaycee’s favorite color might somehow bring her home.
