The lion is one of the most feared predators in the world. They’re known to hunt and feast on all sorts of prey, large and small, earning their reputation as some of the baddest animals on the planet.
It’s that very reputation that made us fear for this injured bat-eared fox in Botswana’s Central Kalahari Game Reserve. While lying on a road, he was approached by a lioness… and what happened next is truly stunning.
The lioness spotted the injured and frightened fox in the middle of the road, and approached it with curiosity.
But they weren’t alone.
A hungry male lion spotted them down the road.
He immediately took interest in the injured creature.
It was not looking too great for the little fox.
For a moment, the big cats seemed disinterested.
Then the lion went in for the kill…
But suddenly, the lioness decided she wasn’t going to let anything happen to her tiny new friend.
Not on her watch.
The male lion protested, but he left the fox alone, for now.
A mother’s instinct goes beyond just her own cubs.
She even put herself in between the lion and her new canine cub.
Then, when everyone was preoccupied…
The fox was able to get on his feet and run off to safety.
Nature truly is full of surprises.
Stay safe, little friend.
I guess that motherly instinct can overpower the one that says “dinner is served.” Amazing!
