It’s a September evening on a remote stretch of the Appalachian Trail, and two young hikers are bedding down for the night. By the time morning arrives, a stranger has entered the shelter, brutally murdering the couple in cold blood. As the hunt for the killer begins, a shockwave rolls out across the country.
Geoff Hood and Molly LaRue first encountered each other in Salina, Kansas, where they were both working for the same project. As lovers of the great outdoors, they spent their time taking their charges on life-changing adventures. Soon, they became a couple.
Geoff was from Tennessee and had taught rock climbing in New Mexico before finding himself in Salina. Molly, meanwhile, had grown up in Ohio. She was a passionate artist, and had already proved herself a capable outdoorswoman with a year spent working with children in the Arizona desert.
